A local tourism agency is launching a summer campaign, including theme weeks, to help Hatters discover or rediscover what the city has to offer.
Tourism Medicine Hat launched the campaign, #myMHsummer, this week and plans to continue providing checklists and ideas through late September as locals likely stay closer to home this summer.
“(It) is meant to create unique experiences that our residents can enjoy and then celebrate them by sharing those special moments on (social media),” said Jace Anderson, the agency’s executive director. “We want to be a part of everyone’s plans this summer.”
Locations and other information is available at the group’s website (tourismmedicinehat.com/mymhsummer), and participants are encouraged to take part at their convenience and post pictures to social media platforms.
The effort is supported but the City of Medicine Hat as a way to promote local destinations and support local businesses.
“Many residents have had to cancel or scale back their summer plans,” said Kelli Ireland, with Invest Medicine Hat. “We want to encourage the community to celebrate and support the beautiful destinations and local businesses that are right here in our city, and boost community morale in the process.”
Council meetings reopen
City council meetings will reopen to the public on a limited basis next week, the city clerk’s department announced Tuesday.
Physical access to meetings was limited to council members and select staff in early April as restrictions on the size of gatherings were imposed by health officials. Since then, city staff, the media and those with business before council have joined by teleconference, and the public have been able to view proceedings online.
The July 6 meeting will feature limited seating for the public and the media will be allowed to attend. Those still wishing may participate in a public hearing via a teleconference protocol.
Meetings will continue to be held at the Esplanade’s studio theatre as council chambers at city hall is currently undergoing renovations.
