A Medicine Hat man is under arrest on charges that he set fire to a car and threatened to burn down a house, police reported Friday. The Medicine Hat Police Service says that an early morning vehicle fire on May 29 at Hemingway Crescent caused $29,000 in damage. On June 19 a man walking near Division Avenue and Seventh Street SE was threatened with a weapon and told his house would be burned. After an arrest on Tuesday, Jeremiah Amero, 29, will remain in custody following a bail hearing. He faces single charges of arson, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a firearms prohibition and other court-ordered conditions. His next court date is set for June 30. Fraud case Two women have been charged with fraud after police say they used stolen fuel cards to obtain $36,000 in fuel during 2019. Transaction records and security camera footage was used in the investigation that resulted Wednesday in charges against two Medicine Hat residents. Tina Thompson, 37, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and Nicole Heller, 37, with fraud under $5,000. Both were released from custody and have court appearances scheduled in September. 11
