Kite festival in Swift Current cancelled

By Medicine Hat News on June 11, 2020.

Another traditional family fun event at this time of year, the annual Swift Current kite festival, has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Windscape Kite Festival was to have taken place on June 19 and 20.

“In light of current events and future uncertainty, the Windscape and Long Day’s Night teams have decided it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel this year’s events,” says the website for the popular event.

The kite festival was founded in 2005 and each year attracts more than 11,000 people to Swift Current. People have flocked to see more than 40 professional kite makers and performers from all over the world.

The plans for this year had included kite artists from Belgium, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, and of course, Saskatchewan.

The plan is to encourage all those who were going to participate this year to return next year.
