A man is facing multiple charges after a robbery at a convenience store in the 1500 block of Dunmore Road on Tuesday morning. At approximately 3:45 a.m., Medicine Hat Police Service received a report of a robbery, according to a press release. The reported stated that an unknown suspect was threatening the store clerk, then took several cartons of cigarettes, demanded the clerk open the cash register and grabbed some money before fleeing the scene. Police arrived on scene and initiated a K9 track, which resulted in a police service dog alerting his handler to a pack of cigarettes containing identity documents of a possible suspect. After reviewing surveillance footage, the identity documents and a tip from the public, police linked a 25-year-old male to the robbery. “Containment was set up around the subject’s residence and police were able to take him into custody without incident,” reads the MHPS release. “Following his arrest, a further K9 track revealed the stolen money a short distance away from the robbery location.” The male subject is known to police, and faces charges of robbery, uttering threats and breach of probation. He is in police custody awaiting a bail hearing. 6
