Turbine prototypes on the move

By Medicine Hat News on June 3, 2020.

Two high-profile wind turbine prototypes appear to be on their way out of Medicine Hat.

The two blue helical turbines developed by Bluenergy Solar Wind have been located at a renewable energy microgrid at Medicine Hat College since last year, but one recently tipped over in heavy wind after the company said they were essentially locked into stationary position after testing was completed.

The college released a statement on Tuesday that its part in testing the equipment in a working relationship with the company is complete. A previously planned removal of the equipment will now take place with local company Terralta and Calgary -based Crestview Electric doing the work.

“Phase one of testing has been successfully complete on site, with preliminary test data gathered for use in product development,” reads the statement.

Officials will Bluenergy told the News on Monday that the firm had secured another partner to continue testing the turbines, which it says provide a more consistent power production for commercial, large residential and industrial complexes.
