Businesses may be opening up under the province’s relaunch plan, but there remain many events that still won’t happen in Medicine Hat this summer.

New to the list Thursday was the annual chili cook-off, which the City Centre Development Agency decided was simply too large of a risk even though it was slated for July, when restrictions could be much different than they are today.

“The board of directors felt it would be impossible to follow social distancing laws with an event as big as the chili cook-off,” said a press release from the CCDA.

Another downtown event cancelled was Midsummer Madness, which usually runs in conjunction with the previously-cancelled Jazz Fest.

The CCDA did announce it plans to go ahead with its second annual Mural Fest, and will begin a test project to assist businesses in setting up online infrastructure for sales.
