With all signs pointing towards a massive slate of reopenings later this week, Alberta has created a new website to help prepare businesses for an economic relaunch. Alberta Biz Connect (Alberta.ca/bizconnect) has sector-specific information for many of the businesses that could be allowed to open Thursday under Stage 1 of the provincial COVID-19 plan. Those include hair salons, daycares, restaurants, museums and retail locations. None of the Stage 1 conditions to be met are specific, with the province’s guidelines including “enhancing” testing capacity and “stronger international border controls and airport screening.” Monday’s daily COVID update from Alberta Health revealed only 47 new cases and 1,524 remaining active cases in the province. There are 312 active cases in Brooks and six in Medicine Hat. “Much of the province has been successful at flattening the curve,” said chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, noting 73 people remain hospitalized. “Hospitalizations and ICU admissions are down, recovered case numbers are up and I am encouraged to see fewer daily new cases than even one week ago.” Hinshaw announced two new deaths related to COVID, but also two more deaths proved to be falsely related to the disease. The total number of people who have died from COVID-19 is 117, while 6,300 Albertans in total have contracted it. 7
