Province-wide there were seven new deaths announced, six of them at one continuing care centre in Calgary. The total death toll in the province due to the new coronavirus is now 87, while there are 5,165 total cases.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced new public health orders affecting continuing care facilities. Those facilities are now mandated to test and isolate anyone with mild COVID-like symptoms, while a positive test will now trigger mandatory testing throughout a facility.
Staff caring for isolated patients at continuing care facilities must now wear eye protection as well as facemasks and other personal protective equipment. They can’t work at multiple facilties. Long-term care facilities are also now able to arrange outdoor visits for residents in isolation and their families.
