The Daffodil Project is celebrating the blooming season and on Sunday the first flower danced in the breeze at Len Mitzel Meadow.

There are many daffodil plants with buds including those at Pierce Place near the Visitor Centre and the teepee.

John Pierce donated 20,000 bulbs that were planted last fall. John Pierce’s wife Anne Marie passed away in March 2016, and their son Darrell last fall. The chosen location, called Pierce Place, is particularly fitting considering the nearby baseball diamonds acknowledging Darrell’s love of sports and in particular baseball.

Adair Prouty donated 20,000 bulbs in honour of the late Len Mitzel, former MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat. Len Mitzel Meadow is located south of the Trans-Canada Highway between the College overpass and 13 Avenue SE overpass.

The Daffodil Project’s goal is simply to beautify the area each spring and bring smiles to the faces of people travelling along the highway.

Fall 2019 was the fifth planting season of The Daffodil Project. The project has been suspended for two years to assess its long-term viability.

Additional information about The Daffodil Project is available on its website: medhatdaffodils.wordpress.com.
