Siksika reports nearly 100 COVID-19 tests

The Siksika Nation has tested 99 individuals for COVID-19, and reports zero positive results with 85 per cent of the results back, the reserve’s health authority announced Friday.

Siksika Health Services stated that it has investigated a total of 115 individual cases of those who presented symptoms of the respiratory diseases and has closed 101. Of the tests performed in the community near Gleichen, results are pending for 14. It further stated that updates will be provided every two days.

Alberta Health Services has rejected requests from the News to provide localized figures for the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. It does provide testing figures accumulated from across the South Zone, essentially all areas of Southern Alberta outside of Calgary and outlying communities.

Health care on First Nations Reserves falls under federal jurisdiction with some shared responsibilities withe provinces.
