The management team at Little Owl Learning Centre is doing their best to help keep kids busy while schools are closed.
The group launched the Facebook page, Raised With Roots, recently to help parents connect with their children in different ways.
“We want families to be able to incorporate a bit of a different style of learning right now,” said Justine Mann, who helps run the page. “All of us are home with our children, so it’s a perfect opportunity to make different creations with them and to show other people how they can do different experiments in their homes.
“Everyone is at home right now, so it’s a good time to start this page and help people.”
The page posts a new activity just about every day, with some activities being marble painting, Easter egg painting and toilet paper roll haircuts.
“With Little Owl we do a lot of open-ended, and process-based activities – we want to stay true to that on this new page,” said Mann. “We want kids to keep their brains developing and we can do that by encouraging them to be creative.
“All of the activities we post are open to the kids’ interpretations, which lets them explore.
“We present the materials to the kids and let them use them as they see fit.”
Mann says the group is trying to offer activities based around everyday items.
“Since we’re all stuck at home, it’s important for us that people can actually do these activities,” she said. “We have one post about a little robot created from an Amazon delivery box.
“Everything sitting around the house can be used in creative ways.”
Mann is running the page alongside Jade Haslbeck and Vanessa McVeigh.
