NEWS PHOTO MO CRANKER - Teary-eyed kitchen and housekeeping staff from Revera Meadowlands Retirement Residence wave to Hatters clapping to them. Hatters surrounded the building to say thank you to staff taking care of those living there.
A group of Hatters took time out of their day Thursday to say tank you to staff at a local retirement facility.
People gathered outside of Revera Meadowlands Retirement Residence for 3 p.m. and clapped for staff who take care of their loved ones every day.
Families with multiple generations attended to say hi and chat briefly with people they are not allowed to visit due to COVID-19 concerns.
Some people brought colourful signs to show appreciation for their loved ones.
Staff left the building to wave and say thanks to those who attended. Many staff members teared up at the gathering and show of appreciation.
Tonight’s the night
Say thank you to our front-line health care workers tonight at 6 p.m. by putting your hands together in appreciation.
The News is encouraging you to stand outside your home and clap your hands in a show of support and gratitude. Take photos and videos of your family participating and post these on social media and/or send to the News for publication.
Physicians, nurses, all those working at the hospital including cleaners and those in the laundry, those in doctors offices, paramedics, air ambulance operators, those working with seniors in seniors residences, home care workers and more, are putting their lives on the line like never before to care for all of us during this COVID-19 pandemic. They understand the personal risks they are taking but they are doing it anyway.
Where would we be without them?
If you are not at home on Friday evening, pull over and step out of your vehicle, step out of the building you’re in, or stand on a balcony and applaud enthusiastically.
We want all health care workers to know how much we appreciate them.
Please spread the word.
