The city is relaxing measures for campers and RVs within city limits to accommodate those who might be self-isolating near family or friends, according to a mid-day release on Tuesday. Typically, occupation of a recreational vehicle is limited to 24 hours, and other rules govern how long they can sit on city streets. That will be relaxed, according to the city’s planning department, but owners must ensure they do not block streets or sidewalks, and a suitable plan for draining tanks and hooking up water or power must be in place. “The city is exploring creative ways to help residents get through this challenging event,” says Kent Snyder, general manager of planning and development services. “We recognize that this is a small gesture, but it may ease the burden for some families.” Side doors must not open onto the roadway, generators are not allowed, and septic tanks can not be drained onto streets, storm sewers or onto parkland or environmental reserves. As well, residents are reminded that propane or other fuel tanks comprise a fire risk. The city reserves the right to inspect the vehicles to ensure public safety, that they are not being rented, and to ensure they are removed once isolation periods elapse. At that point they must be moved and fines can be applied. 8
City should consider renting hotel rooms for community isolation purpose & help individuals in need of space.
That will help in control spread of virus, keep local business running & right use of facilities available in town.
