Officials are now recommending that residents avoid play and recreation areas, such as skateparks, tennis courts, as well as playground equipment to help contain the spread of COVID-19, the city of Medicine Hat’s parks department announced on Friday.

Outdoor common play spaces include the Inland and Saamis skateboard parks, outdoor courts (such as pickleball basketball, etc.) outdoor rinks, sports field, baseball diamonds and picnic areas, fire pits, outdoor washrooms, as well as the the fenced-in Saratoga Dog Park.

“We still want everyone to stay active and enjoy our parks and trail system,” said parks manager Scott Richter. “We just need to be taking the proper precautions and following the guidelines AHS has provided.”

The city if also requesting that dog owners be considerate and keep animals on dogs on-leash while on or near the trail system though portions are designated as off-leash.
