AMTS pleads for rest stop vandalism to end or closures could occur

By Medicine Hat News on March 21, 2020.

Recent vandalism at provincial rest stops has the Alberta Motor Transport Association pleading for this to stop as truckers depend on these facilities.

The AMTA says some provincial rest stops are being continually vandalized with theft of toilet paper, soap and hand sanitizer and the facilities being damaged.

“During this time the health and safety of all Albertans is the priority of every citizen. These facilities are used by commercial truck drivers and are part of critical infrastructure that drivers depend on in order to continue to provide Canadians with essential supplies in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads a press release from the AMTA.

These facilities are critical to the supply chain and if rest stops continue to be vandalized there is the potential for Alberta Transport to close them.
