Months after being abandoned at a local boarding kennel, seven-year-old Fila de Sao Miguel Rubble now has a home.

Hatters Kevin and Jayne Heinrich picked the dog up from Pet Park Boarding Kennel early Thursday afternoon, which was an emotional goodbye for boarding kennel staff and members of the Southern Alberta Humane Society.

“We’ve been following his story on social media and we really became interested and invested in it,” said Jayne. “It’s been a while since we’ve had a dog of our own and we don’t have any pets or kids at home anymore.

“We started to think adopting him and we realized we would be a great home for him.”

Rubble is in need of rehab and medication for a number of lingering health issues. Jayne says he will get all the care and love he can get.

“We came out to meet him and fell in love with him,” she said. “When we first met him he came to us right away and seemed very comfortable. He’s so calm and friendly.

“He’s an easy-going dog who suits us well. I hope we suit him well.”

When Rubble arrived at the business he had a different name. The couple says he will keep his name.
