Police wrap up another drug investigation, with charges laid against three people

By Medicine Hat News on February 4, 2020.

Police have made another drug arrest that originated with complaints from members of the public.

Three Hatters face drug and property charges after an investigation conducted by the Medicine Hat Police Service Priority Street Crime Unit wrapped up Friday.

The suspects were allegedly engaging in drug-related activity in close proximity to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, police say.

The MHPS executed a search warrant at a residence located at the 500 block of Fifth Street SW, which resulted in the arrests of 39-year-old Shanley Doling and Jason Baynham, 45.

The next day police arrested 45-year-old Roger Bachmeier.

Doling and Bachmeier face charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl and heroin, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Baynham was arrested on outstanding warrants and also charged with possessing heroin and fentanyl for the purposes of trafficking.

He and Doling are in custody and scheduled to appear in court Thursday, while Bachmeier is out on $500 cash bail and is scheduled to appear Feb. 20.

This was the third such drug bust since last week, but community safety section Staff Sgt. Cory Both says there’s no particular cause for concern for the public.

There’s no particular increase in property and drug crimes, but a series of investigations have wrapped up around the same time, he explained.

“There’s nothing special going on,” Both said. “There’s drugs and property crime out there all the time and what happened over the last week is the culmination of several different investigations all out once.

“Just over the last few weeks, they’ve had a few of them come to fruition in short order.”
