Alberta Wheat Commission has a new chair following Gary Stanford retirement

The Alberta Wheat Commission has a new chair as longtime leader Gary Stanford retired following the annual general meeting on Wednesday in Edmonton.

Former regional director Todd Hames takes over as chair of the producer group that was founded in 2012 with Magrath-area farmer Stanford as a founding member of the board.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time on the board and particularly as chair,” said Stanford in a release. “Looking back on when the commission first began, I’m extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished.”

He cited a research portfolio that totals $16.5 million in investments and work on rail transportation and trade issues.

“I have great confidence that with Todd Hames’ industry experience and leadership that I am leaving AWC in great hands.”

Hames, who operates a 4,900-acre farm near Lloydminster, has previously served as president of the Canada Canola Council and is a current director with Cereals Canada.

Hannah Konschuh, of Cluny, remains as vice-chair following meetings that also saw new regional directors elected, including Dean Hubbard, of Claresholm), representing Region 1 (southern Alberta).
