Police have arrested a man who was wanted after a “high-risk incident” near the police station Tuesday morning.

Adam Dawe, 39, was located Thursday at 12:15 a.m. at a friend’s residence on Cuyler Road.

Medicine Hat Police Service Staff Sgt. Rod Thompson told the News that “old fashioned police work” led to the suspect’s arrest. “There was a member from our night shift who was assigned to the investigation. He took the initial report. He’d just been doing a lot of investigating and talking with people,” explained Thompson. “He just was tenacious.”

When officers arrived at the residence, they made contact and engaged in a “lengthy negotiation” before Dawes surrendered himself, as per an MHPS news release.

“I’m not exactly sure what was said, but several attempts were made to try to get him out of the house with no success. One of the seasoned officers just continued to try to reach out to him, and finally he came out and was taken into custody without incident,” Thompson said.

He was facing some outstanding warrants with regards to breaches of previous release conditions, as well as new charges relating to Tuesday’s incident, which cannot be revealed until they are officially sworn against him.

Police were unable to locate him Tuesday at the 900 block of Second Street SE – east of the police station and west of Lions Park – which is where a third-party source told them he was, so they extended the search to the downtown core.

After exhausting their options there, they opted to release an image of him to the public for assistance finding him.

They told members of the public if they see him to immediately call 911, as he was believed to be armed and dangerous.
