You never know what you’ll find when you start cleaning up.
Redcliff’s Erin Taefu will you that. She is $1 million richer after checking some old lottery tickets in December. She claimed the prize this month.
“I had just got back from a trip, and I was cleaning out my car,” she remembered. “I found some tickets in the car and in the house that I hadn’t checked yet. When I finished cleaning, I checked them on the WCLC mobile app.”
Her number matched the winning number for the $1 million guaranteed prize on the Oct. 12, 2019 draw.
“It feels like a total shock to have won,” said Taefu in a Facebook message to the Cypress Courier, a sister paper of the Medicine Hat News. “Life hasn’t really changed yet because it was a longer process due to the holidays. It was almost two months to the day that we checked the ticket and found out we won.”
Taefu bought her ticket at the Redcliff Husky.
The Taefus plan is to upgrade their house because the family of five is currently living in a small bungalow.
“It will be nice for each of our kids to have their own room and the rest of the will pretty much be put away for our future,” she said. “We are only in our 30s, so making it stretch is important. Our day to day life shouldn’t change too much.”
