Daffodil Project taking break to let blooms flourish

By Medicine Hat News on December 7, 2019.

After planting 40,000 bulbs this season, the Daffodil Project is entering into hiatus in order to assess longevity and new initiatives. The project organizers are extremely thankful for volunteers and all those to have donated to the cause.--SUBMITTED IMAGE

The Daffodil Project has now completed its fifth planting season and is exactly half way through the planned term of the project from 2015 to 2025.

Each year the team has made adjustments to planting locations and employed strategies to maximize success for the bulbs planted.

At a recent committee meeting it was decided that it is an appropriate time to take a couple years off to determine the longevity of the project and any possible new initiatives. It will also be an opportunity for feedback from the community.

The donations that have already been received for daffodil bulbs for the current season will be used to purchase bulbs to plant next fall but no additional donations will be accepted for the time being.

The committee has been overwhelmed and gratified by the volunteers who have so readily participated in planting days and the many people who have donated money for all the bulbs that have been planted so far. The response has been tremendous.

The Daffodil Project will continue to bring you updates during the flowering season this spring especially about Pierce Place and Len Mitzel Meadow.
