Leonard Beaulieu’s second-degree murder trial begins Monday. The accused, who’s being tried by judge alone, was arrested alongside Luke Boxell in relation to the New Year’s Eve 2016 killing of 21-year-old Jordan Pede. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound at Strathcona Park before getting airlifted to Calgary General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said at the time they suspect the homicide was the result of a drug deal gone awry. Boxell pled guilty to manslaughter in April 2018 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Beaulieu has been in jail since his arrest in February 2017. 7
