A woman sustained minor injuries from a stabbing Wednesday night after she pursued a male who had been rummaging through her vehicle, according to police. Cops were called around 10:30 p.m. to an alleyway at the 500 block of N.h Railway Street, finding the 34-year-old victim with a small cut to her hand. The victim attempted to chase down the unknown culprit, who had stolen items from her car, catching up to him before getting into a brief physical altercation, where she was cut with an unidentified weapon. The perpetrator then successfully fled on foot. MHPS Staff Sgt. Rod Thompson told the News that, broadly speaking, it’s best practice when someone sees another person in the midst of an offence “to try and get as much detail as possible, and call 911 as soon as they can.” “Let us deal with it, because a lot of the time, we just don’t know who we’re dealing with and certainly neither do the members of the public, and they’re not equipped to deal with it,” said Thompson. A K9 officer was deployed to the scene to track the culprit down in “adverse weather conditions,” but he couldn’t be located, a Medicine Hat Police Service news release says. Police described him as somewhere between 25 and 30 years old, Indigenous, about six feet tall with a thin build and wearing a dark jacket. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with further information should contact the MHPS. 10
