The Community Foundation of South Eastern Alberta made a number of large announcements Thursday evening at the annual Chair’s Reception event.

“We are granting a total of $207,000 back to our community,” said assistant director Sue Edwards. “That’s going to 39 different agencies and that’s all across the region.”

Edwards says $60,000 is coming from the RBC Future Launch Community Challenge Grant, which will be evenly distributed throughout the region.

“We have three community funds in the region and they each got $15,000 from that,” she said. “Oyen area, Brooks and district and 40 Mile all received $15,000 and our main office received $15,000 as well.

“We’re also excited to announce that our CFSEA Endowment Fund has passed $14 million.”

The Community Foundation also used the night to announce that The Mustard Seed was able to start a $5,000 agency fund thanks to a donation from Glen and Joanne Stickle.

“These two are amazing philanthropists in Medicine Hat,” she said. “The Mustard Seed is just starting up here and this will be a big boost to them.”

Edwards says HALO is looking for a person or people to assist in raising $5,000 to help their organization get an agency fund.

“We have had a number of people coming in looking specifically to donate to HALO,” she said. “This would allow people to do that.

“You see them in the news all of the time and everyone knows it’s a good cause.”

Edwards says anyone looking to contribute to HALO can call into the Community Foundation at 403-527-9038.
