About 500 customers lose power after early-morning collision takes out poles

By Medicine Hat News on November 29, 2019.

Power was knocked out to about 500 addresses in north Redcliff and the Box Springs area on Thursday morning after a truck knocked down two power poles.

The collision happened at about 5:50 a.m. when a transport truck struck the poles and became ensnarled in the wires. Affected were Broadway Avenue and portions of Redcliff north of the Trans-Canada Highway, as well as southern portions of the Box Springs Business Park in Medicine Hat.

City crews restored power to about half the area by 8 a.m., then all but five customers by 11 a.m.

An afternoon statement from the utility department said they expected repair work to continue for most of the day.
