The annual Spirit of Giving Gala took place Saturday at the Medicine Hat Lodge – raising more than $61,000 for the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund.

“It was another great evening,” said executive director Deanna Doerksen. “It’s always amazing to see the support from the community.

“It was another successful year.”

The Scotiabank tree was auctioned off this year to the Yuill Family Foundation for $15,000 – the bank matched the donation. It was re-auctioned off for $3,500.

In total there were 13 trees sold at the event.

Doerksen says it is looking to be yet another busy giving season for the SCF.

“With our economy, we’re expecting a lot of families in need.”

Doerksen thanked Canadian Tire for being the headline sponsor of the night.
