The investment firm that took over AltaGas midstream assets in southeast Alberta has a name: Campus Energy Partners. This month the Alberta Utility Commission approved the change from a numbered company that originally held the pipelines and plants that the company sold to Ontario investment house, Birch Hill Equity Partners, last September. The company was formed in February 2019, when it formally took control of the facilities and named Jeremy Baines, a former AltaGas senior executive, as Campus president. The company also acquired commercial supply contracts as part of the $165-million purchase from AltaGas. In southern Alberta, the assets include: – The Suffield gas transmission pipeline system that carries gas about 150 kilometres to the TransCanada mainline at Burstall, Sask; – The Bantry-Princess station that includes a small power station, liquid fractionation capabilities and connects to Burstall via the Suffield system’s northern loop. – Three regional gathering plants in Retlaw, Enchant and Turin, Alta., known as the RET complex; – Another three-plant complex centred around Marengo, Sask., northeast of Acadia Valley; The Cold Lake Pipeline system and gas plant in Dawson Creek, B.C., also changed hands from AltaGas to Birch Hill, along with a significant minority stake in Tidewater Midstream. That firm is focusing on constructing a refinery in Prince George. 12
