Scooter driver slightly banged up after being struck by vehicle on Maple Avenue

By Medicine Hat News on September 18, 2019.

A man riding an electric scooter Tuesday morning sustained minor injuries after being hit by a car at Maple Avenue and Fifth Street SE, police say.

At 8:27 a.m., a woman driving a Chrysler Intrepid travelling north on Maple Avenue at the crosswalk along the intersection didn’t yield to him, striking the scooter and causing the man to fall off.

The driver sustained no injuries and the man on the scooter received minor cuts and scrapes. Total damage to both vehicles is pegged at $500.

Police sent out a notification on their app and social media accounts to stay away from the intersection about 10 minutes after the collision. About half an hour later, they announced the intersection was clear.

The Chrysler driver was given a ticket for failing to yield at a crosswalk.
