Medicine Hat Potters' Association members have been busy producing bowls for the annual Chili Cookoff. The bowls sell for $10 each and can then be filled with as much chili as the buyer can handle. Net proceeds from the sale of the bowls is split between two local charities — the after school lunch program and the Salvation Army. Some of the members posed recently with results of their handiwork. From the left are: Trinity Brinkman, Ginette Brinkman, Kim Wickstrom, Brenda Bowman, Louise Maier, Elaine Zimmer, Wanda Biffart, Maxine Dies, Robbie Sehn and Patti Sanders.

Expect the competition to be hot and spicy and the bowls to be fire-tempered at the 30th annual Downtown Chili Cookoff this Saturday.
Four blocks in the city centre will be closed from noon until 3 p.m. as 20 entries vie to serve up the best bowl at the annual event, while the Medicine Hat Potters Association is again providing kiln-fired bowls for charity.
Clay bowls for use during the event will be sold for $10 with proceeds divided evenly between the after school lunch program and the Salvation Army
Culinary creations are supplied by various businesses and organizations that use unique recipes to produce pots of chili for the public, which then votes for winners in a variety of categories.
Regular bowls can be purchased for $5 at the event, and with it the purchaser receives a free commemorative can of root beer or orange pop made by Hell’s Basement Brewery
The early summer offering from the City Centre Development Agency will spans the 500 and 600 Blocks of Second and Third streets.
Live musical entertainment will be provided by Mike Wilson and Rob Hudec.
