Medicine Hat police shoot man with non-lethal round at break-and-enter

One man in is custody and facing a number of charges after police were forced to tase and shoot him with a non-lethal round Monday morning at the scene of a break-and-enter.
Police responded to a home on Anson Avenue around 8 a.m. Monday where the man was alleged to be breaking into a home and armed with edged weapons.
According to a Medicine Hat Police Service press release, the suspect confronted the officers with the weapons and demanded the officers to shoot him.
The MHPS crisis team negotiated with the man who continued to challenge the police. Police eventually used a taser on him and shot him with one non-lethal round from an Arwen Ace.
The suspect continued to fight and resist arrest. He was eventually transported to hospital for assessment and treatment of injuries.
The man is in police custody and is facing charges of forcible entry, possessing a dangerous weapon, assault, forcible confinement, utter threats, mischief and resisting arrest.
The release states that the owner of the home, who is being provided support through the victim services team, had a previous relationship with the man.
