Alberta’s Minister for Seniors will be in Medicine Hat on Monday to officially launch Seniors Week across the province. “Seniors’ Week is an opportunity to thank seniors for the lifetime of service they have provided to their families, friends and neighbours. Seniors built Alberta into a key engine of our collective prosperity – and they continue to contribute through caregiving, volunteerism and experience,” said Josephine Pon, minister for seniors and housing. There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast at 8:30 a.m. served on the patio at the back of the Veiner Centre. Cost is $2 per person. The official launch of Seniors Week will take place at the Veiner Centre at 10 a.m. “Seniors need to be recognized and acknowledged for the vital role they play in our daily lives. They provide us with valuable knowledge, skills and experiences that benefit us now and will continue to benefit our province, cities and towns in the future,” said Mayor Ted Clugston. Later on Monday, Pon will also visit Cypressview Foundation seniors’ residence. During Seniors’ Week, Albertans who are 65 years and older receive free general admission to the province’s 20 historic sites, museums and archives. Free admission does not apply to tour groups; fees for special programming at facilities still apply. A calendar of Seniors’ Week events and more information can be found at alberta.ca/seniors-week.aspx. 9
