There was a serious motorcycle accident Wednesday, causing the intersection of S. Boundary Road and Southridge Drive to be closed off for two hours.

This was the result of a pickup truck leaving a stop sign into the path of the westbound motorcycle driven by a 61-year-old male, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Medicine Hat Police Service Traffic Unit Sgt. Clarke White says the victim will “require hospitalization for the foreseeable future,” but his injuries are “non-life-threatening.”

Because the victim is a hospital patient, the police are unable to disclose further details on his injuries.

The collision was allegedly the result of a lack of caution on the part of the truck driver.

“The evidence … indicates that the driver of the pickup truck left the stop sign unsafely,” White said, adding that intoxication can be ruled out as a factor.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing and the truck driver could face charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

“We’re not looking at criminal charges by any means,” said White.
