The Kinsmen Home Lotto deadline has been extended in hopes of selling more tickets for the annual fundraising raffle.

Each year the service club raffles off a new home in order to raise money that pays for free swimming and skating, community projects and programming.

This year’s draw was to take place on April 1, but the Kinsmen recently applied and was granted an extension by Alberta Lotteries. The new cutoff for sales is May 5, with the winner selected May 11.

“It’s our largest fundraiser of the year and we count on it to fund many projects throughout the year,” said lotto co-chair Stephen Pudwell.

“That is hundreds of thousands of dollars going back in to the community.

“It’s a chance to buy a $100 ticket to win a $500,000 home, but at the end of the day it all helps the community.”

The home, at 609 Somerside View, was built by Bravada Homes, and was valued at $500,000.

Viewings and tickets are available from 5-9 p.m. weeknights and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Tickets can also be purchased online (at mhkinsmen.ca), at South Country Co-op grocery stores, Sobey’s and Richardson Jewelry.

A separate 50/50 draw will be held as scheduled on April 1, after ticket sales close on March 24.

As of Wednesday morning the take-home share of that raffle sat just above $30,000.
