Alberta Health extends funding deal with pharmacists

By Medicine Hat News on March 2, 2019.

Alberta Health has announced an extension to its funding agreement with pharmacists even though the existing contract was due to expire in a year’s time.

According to a press release on Friday, the agreement with Alberta Pharmacists Association was to expire March 31, 2020 but is now extended to March 31, 2022. The same rates for pharmacy compensation will apply during the extended time period.

“Measures previously introduced under the framework have helped to ensure pharmacy compensation is within government’s projected budget,” according to the press release.

The press release says the agreement ensures pharmacy compensation growth will be kept to 5.3 per cent over the two-year extension to accommodate population and volume growth. Funding for pharmacy compensation was forecast to rise by 12.3 per cent annually between 2018 and 2020.
