Kin Coulee Park was temporarily closed Tuesday as police investigated a suspicious package found in the park’s pedestrian tunnel.
The Medicine Hat Police Service Explosive Disposal Unit was on scene at about 10:30 a.m. and rendered the device safe about four hours later. An MHPS release states the EDU robot was used to break the device apart for safe examination. It was still unknown Tuesday afternoon whether the device was explosive. The major crimes section is continuing the investigation.
Traffic was stopped twice on the Trans-Canada Highway above the tunnel and a local school imposed a shelter in place order.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call MHPS at 403-529-8481 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
