Medicine Hat sat at -24 C at 9 a.m. on Monday and felt like – 30 C with the wind chill, according to The Weather Network.
Conditions are expected to improve only slightly over the rest of the week. Tuesday’s forecast is for – 21 C, feeling like – 29 C. Wednesday could see the temperatures reach the teens with a high of -19 C in the forecast, but still feeling like – 23 C.
Scattered flurries are expected Friday and Saturday with temperatures hovering in the mid-teens, with a wind chill factor down as low as – 26 C.
People are reminded to ensure their pets aren’t out in the cold too long.
Motorists are encouraged to plug in their cars and once on the road should leave a safe distance between themselves and other drivers and give road-clearing or two crews room to work.
While the majority of Alberta is under an extreme cold warning from Environment Canada, Medicine Hat and the rest of the southeast corner of the province has so far avoided the designation.
