Sportsman Day 2019 hit the Hat Saturday and more than 1,000 Hatters went to the Stampede Grounds to check out what was going on.
The show featured more than 30 vendors, a photo contest, air rifle shoot for kids, door prizes, a silent auction and much more.
“It’s been a really great day,” said event chair Trevor Copeland. “We’re expecting that we’ll have about 1,300 people out by the end of the day and the youth air rifle shoot has had more than 40 kids take part so far.
“It’s been a really successful day with a lot of traffic and lots of positive comments.”
The event was held to bring funds and membership signups into the Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association as well as bringing outdoorspeople together for a day.
“Everyone I’ve talked to is happy with how things are going,” said Copeland. “Vendors are doing sales, which means people are happy with the selection — we’re hoping the vendors want to come back to next year’s show.
“We had a lot of elk on display this year and some really impressive antlers on display as well.”
A number of photos were submitted for three categories and were judged before the end of the show. Three winners were picked and each one got a certificate from the Fish and Game Association.
“We’re just happy with how things have gone this year,” said Copeland. “We’re excited to put on the show and excited to think about next year’s.”
