Traditional winter weather returned to southeastern Alberta Wednesday, with snow, wind and cold temperatures reminding people that “Hey, it’s January.”
Snow started falling around 8 a.m. Wednesday and continued most of the day, with accumulations in the 10- to 15-centimetre range. Coupled with winds gusting as high as 40 km/h, driving conditions were less than ideal.
Travel conditions weren’t great but the Trans-Canada Highway remained open, said a Redcliff RCMP spokesman. He said people should always drive in accordance with the conditions and make sure they have a survival kit with them, including snacks, water, blankets and a flashlight, for example.
Temperatures in the Medicine Hat area were expected to plummet to the minus-20-degree range overnight Wednesday, but rebound to a high of minus 3 Thursday and in the plus single digits Friday through Sunday.
