Wind that pushed tree branches on to a powerline and transformer is being blamed for a power outage in Redcliff on Friday afternoon.
With most of southern Alberta under a high wind advisory for much of the day, about 500 addresses in the the northeast portion of the town lost power at about 2 p.m.
Power was also knocked out to about 33 addresses on Second Street in Redcliff at about 2:15 p.m. City of Medicine Hat utility crews restored power by 3:40 p.m.
Environment Canada put a wind warning in place for areas of Alberta south of Calgary from the foothills to Saskatchewan, including Medicine Hat, Cypress County and the Cypress Hills, stating gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour were predicted.
Rural power provider Equs reported downed lines in Claresholm, Granum and Fort Macleod in the early morning hours on Friday.
SaskPower reported no unplanned outages in the south by mid-afternoon as the heavy winds began to move into that region.
