The Medicine Hat Police Service is asking for public assistance identifying a man after a young girl was allegedly touched inappropriately Friday evening in the pool area.
According to a MHPS release, the girl notified pool staff of the incident and police were called to investigate.
Police are investigating this incident as a sexual offence and are attempting to identify and locate the suspect.
Staff Sgt. Kelsey Fraser says the MHPS does not have any video or still images of the suspect as of Saturday afternoon but is hoping to get something to help the investigation. He added that the incident happened in the pool area and not in a changing room.
“I’m not aware of any pictures or video right now and nothing has been sent my way to make me think we have any,” he said. “Major crimes took the file last night and they haven’t indicated they have anything right now but it’s an avenue we’re going to investigate.”
“We’re going to seek those things if they exist and it should really expedite the investigation.”
On Monday, Jan. 8, police put out a call to the public for any photos or videos they took inside or outside the FLC between 2:30 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2019.
The suspect is described as white male about 30–35 years old, about six feet tall, with an average build. Police say he has short light brown hair, a groomed beard and a moustache. The suspect also had a colourful tattoo located around the majority of his left bicep area.
Fraser says that by the time police got to the pool no one matching the suspect’s description was at the FLC.
According to police the information is being released to the public as this man has yet to be identified.
If you have any information regarding the identity of this male, please call the Medicine Hat Police Service at (403) 529-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (403) 527-8477.
