Video interviews of seniors who have made a significant contribution to the community are now available on YouTube.
Recently a special celebration at the Veiner Centre featured taped interviews with seven seniors. The videos were made possible by a $19,000 New Horizons For Seniors grant.
There were many seniors worthy of being interviewed and featured but in the end it had to be limited to just seven, said LaVerne Noble, chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Council.
Those featured include Fran Coffey, Alma Gutfriend, Doug Heine, John John, Fran Lauzon and Lillian Torrie. There are links below to watch the videos on YouTube.
The New Horizons For Seniors grant not only made the videos possible there was enough money to buy several televisions for the Veiner Centre. These will be used in future to give clubs that meet there the option of enjoying online tutorials.
A donation by TD Bank made it possible to purchase an electronic piano for the Veiner Centre.
“The original piano from the Veiner Centre was lost in the 2013 flood,” said Noble.
The piano was played at the celebration and is now available for the choirs who regularly meet at the Veiner Centre.
