Though he’s quite far from home, Blaine Woodcock doesn’t forget where it all started.

The former Hatter was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 recently and says he was happy to find out he was receiving the honour.

“I found out in June that I would be one of the 40 and it’s an honour,” he said. “It was a real mix of emotions for me and it was really humbling for me to be put in this group with all of these great people.

“It’s also a very proud moment for me — having your life’s work up to this point recognized is a special moment.”

Woodcock grew up in the Hat and served as the head of the Medicine Hat College Student Association before moving west to Ontario in 2002. He finished his schooling at the University of Ottawa and is now the chief of staff at Deloitte Canada and is the chair for the Deloitte Foundation.

“I’m extremely proud to be from Medicine Hat,” he said. “During my time in government and in business, it’s something that I’m also proud and happy to bring up.

“The values and lessons I learned while in Medicine Hat are always with me.”

Woodcock has family in the Hat and tries to come back to visit every year. He says is happy where he is, but will also remember parts of Medicine Hat that he can’t find anywhere else.

“There’s so many things — there’s a lot to like about Medicine Hat,” he said. “My time at Medicine Hat College was really special for me — I managed to form some really great friendships and connections that I have to this day.

“I did a lot of different sports and activities when I was growing up and went running a lot. I really miss the coulees.”

Is he a trump wannabe?
How many people has he kicked, stepped-on and abused to reach this pinnacle?
All people that have gotten somewhere in this day and age, have and will walk on everyone else along the way.
