Local man charged with several crimes against the same person

A 22-year-old from Medicine Hat faces charges of uttering threats, assault and sexual assault with a knife against the same person, in addition to breaking into their home and causing damage.

Mahad Abdullahi Dayib was charged Nov. 3 with these offences, which stem from three separate incidents from August through November.

Between Aug. 1 and 31, Dayib allegedly threatened to hurt or kill and assaulted another man in Medicine Hat, according to court documents.

At some point in September, he allegedly broke into the complainant’s house, causing less than $5,000 in damage.

On Nov. 3, Dayib is accused of sexually assaulting and threatening the same person at knifepoint.

He also allegedly defrauded a local taxi driver of $17 the same night.

In sum, Dayib faces two counts of uttering threats, as well as single counts of assault, break-and-enter with intent to cause mischief, assault with a weapon, sexual assault with a weapon and fraud under $5,000.

He appeared in court Nov. 6 via closed-circuit TV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre and was represented by duty counsel.

His case was adjourned to Nov. 20, when he will appear again from jail via CCTV.
