A Tuesday workshop about steps to prevent falls attracted enough seniors to pack the theatre at Medicine Hat Public Library.
Between information sessions about gyms and the benefits of participating in sports such as pickle ball, there were skits by couples that had the audience amused while conveying the theme of keeping physically active in a variety of ways.
Seniors have the highest risk of falling and more negative consequences from falls. Participating in physical activity such as pole walking, pickle ball and Tai Chi help to maintain better balance.
In the Honor Currie Room at the library there were individual kiosks for a range of activities where people could obtain additional information and have questions answered.
The event was led by Alberta Health Services injury prevention professionals with presentations by the YMCA, City of Medicine Hat, Panorama Lanes, Goodlife Fitness, Medicine Hat Pickle Ball Club and more.
Physical activity keeps bones and muscles healthy and strong, increases energy, improves balance, memory, mood and attention.
