Arena activities resume at Kinplex after leak

The Kinplex arenas were reopened on Tuesday, the day after they were evacuated due to an ammonia leak.

City recreation officials stated in a release that a mechanical issues had been resolved and schedule of events at the facility would resume.

Staff at the recreation centre called fire department at about 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 when detection alarms for the toxic substance alerted them to the problem. A hockey team and group of figure skaters were ushered out of the building and the facility was closed until repairs could be completed.

City staff thanked residents for their “patience and understanding.”
