Seniors face the highest risk of falling and more consequences as a result, and now there is a special event to help you reduce the risk.

Don’t Fall Behind will take place Tuesday from 2-4:30 p.m. at Medicine Hat Public Library in the theatre and the Honor Currie Room. You do not need to pre-register.

Staying independent and preventing falls is the theme and will be led by AHS injury prevention professionals. There will be some comedic skits by The Sage Players, and presentations by the YMCA, City of Medicine Hat, Panorama Lanes, Goodlife Fitness, Medicine Hat Pickle Ball Club and more.

Attendees will be able to participate in activities such as urban poling (the use of walking poles) and other physical exercises. Physical activity keeps bones and muscles healthy and strong, increases energy, improves balance, memory, mood and attention.

One in three seniors in Alberta who live independently will experience a fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults and result in more than 10,000 hospital admissions and more than 29,000 emergency department visits each year.
