Medicine Hat News Few actual contests, but many acclamations headlined rural municipal elections in southwest Saskatchewan on Wednesday as representatives were chosen for evened-numbered divisions on rural councils. Closest the Alberta boundary, Darrell Koch is the new Division 6 councillor in the RM of Enterprise after voting at the RM office in Richmound gave him a 16-13 advantage over candidate Christopher Ehresman. Thomas Tuchscherer was acclaimed as the Div. 6 councillor. In the RM of Piapot, Derek Moorhead edged incumbent Harvey Baker by a count of 11-9 to claim the Div. 6 seat, while Lorne Kusler (Div. 2) and Anita Wasilow (Div. 4) were acclaimed. In the Division 6 race in the RM of Maple Creek, incumbent Riley Huery defeated Doug Davidson with 15 of the 23 ballots cast. Three other positions were acclaimed, including Div. 2 to Charles Parsonage, Div. 4 to Wade Wasilow and Div. 8 seat to Shawn Kramer. The RM of Swift Current saw two votes take place. Jim Cadrain defeated Mark Carefoot, 59-51, in voting to represent Division 4, with no vote total provided for candidate Keith Prytula. The division 6 race saw incumbent Gale Nerada edge Aaron Tait 23-18. In the RM, Philip Wall (Div. 2) and Michael Gering (Div. 5) were acclaimed. In another of few elections in the southwest, the Div. 3 seat in the RM of Bone Creek No. 108, near Shaunavon was won by Barry Simmons in a 17-7 vote over challenger Aimee Fairweather. Three others in that area — Div. 2 Barclay Meinert, Div. 4 Brian Olsen, and Div. 6 Audrey Burton — were unopposed. The election in Saskatchewan Landing is delayed as a third call for nominations was recently posted. No results were available from the rural municipality of Reno.
