Medicine Hat’s annual Project Connect event is taking place Wednesday.

The event is taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John’s Church downtown and it is aimed at getting people in need in touch with agencies that can help them out.

“Project Connect is a one-day event that happens in October every year,” said Kristen Valk, one of the many people who make the event happen. “Essentially, the idea of Project Connect is to bring all of the agencies together and make a one-stop shop for all of the people who are in need and could benefit from making contact with some services that are available around the city.

“We have 15 agencies that will have a table Wednesday and we’ll have a general information table for agencies that aren’t able to have a table.”

One of the staples every year at the event is free hair cuts, which will be making a return this year, says Valk.

“There’s a number of hair dressers coming out and donating their time to give out free hair cuts all throughout the day,” she said. “Guests are also able to get their flu shot as well as getting in touch with the Alberta Health Services ID program.

“The women of St. John’s church will also be serving a hot lunch throughout the event.”

Bus passes are available for people to get to and from the event and are available to be picked up at the Community Housing Society, the Salvation Army, St. John’s Church and can be picked up any time before the event. The passes are only able to be used to get to and from the event.
