The renovations at Police Point Park are slowing coming to a close.
Officials from the park were on hand Friday evening with a group of volunteers to do some organizing of the Nature Centre — and to give a tour of the building and its renovations so far.
“It’s looking good here — things are taking shape,” said chief park interpreter Corlaine Gardner. “They just started work on our office space, so there’s still a bit of work left.
“We’ve added more and more as things have gone on — it’s taking a little longer than we originally planned for but it’s going to be worth it when it’s all done.”
As well as updating most of its facilities, the Nature Centre will also have a third bathroom outside — this one being gender neutral and for families — it has moved its ski room and is hoping to add a large TV inside when the funds allow for it.
“Actual construction started in late April, but things have been in the works for years,” said Gardner. “The building has been insulated wonderfully and a new siding that should be fire proof. The rafters front and back were rotting and have been replaced — I’m super pleased at how much the new ones look both modern and retain the style of 1982.
“The renovations have carried the original spirit of the building but really bring it into 2018.”
Gardener says the group is hoping to have renovations completed by the end of next month.
“We’ve been working here every day during the renovations and I think we’re all excited for things to be done,” she said. “We’re excited to get people in here and using everything — I think people are going to be really happy with the renovations.”
