Today is the final day to nominate someone for a Premier’s Council Award.

The awards run every year and are aimed at recognizing Albertans who help create inclusive, barrier-free communities for persons with disabilities.

“The awards are about recognizing individuals, groups, businesses and organizations across the province that work hard to promote inclusive communities,” said local community inclusion co-ordinator Leslie Jerry. “It can be businesses that hire people with disabilities, making a business accessible for people with disabilities in different kinds of ways.

“The awards are also about people who advocate for inclusion and have really made a change in their communities across the province — these are the type of people they’re trying to award.”

Jerry says Medicine Hat hasn’t had great representation at the awards over the years.

“I don’t know if we’ve been great with nominations locally,” she said. “I think we could do a lot more recognizing and nominating than we’re doing across this community.

“It would be fantastic to see more nominations made for sure — there’s a number of categories that can be viewed online.”
